ABOUT
Following the Second World War "The Mother Country" was in need of help. People from the Commonwealth, including many from the West Indies, left their homes to travel thousands of miles to work on the rebuilding and re establishment of Britain. Often people borrowed the money to pay for their non discounted fares. The companies that did pay initially for these tickets expected to be repaid from their new workers' wages and often these loans prevented people from returning to the Caribbean once they realised that "The Mother Country" was not as they had imagined.
